For every one following our trip: coming monday night we are live on Dutch Radio again. It’s on Radio 1, “Weg met BNN” , the program is from 20:00 until 21:00 . I hope we have  mobile connection in the Kyrgyz Mountains, otherwise it will remain silent…..

Akzo Nobel’s News and Views online magazine has also published another article on our trip, here is the text….

Adventurous Car Refinishes employee André Koster and girlfriend Minke are just a few weeks away from leaving their vehicle behind to continue their epic journey to China by public transport. The intrepid couple set off from the Netherlands in March to travel along the ancient Silk Road route and they’ve almost reached the stage where they will have to rely on wheels other than their own. “We will leave our car in Kyrgyzstan, close to the Chinese border, because we’re not allowed to bring our own car into China,” explained André, who recently celebrated his birthday in Teheran.  “We will travel for three weeks by public transport along the Silk Road in western China, then fly back to pick up our car and drive to Kazakhstan. We’ll then spend two weeks in Kazakhstan before our friends from Amsterdam arrive by plane to drive the car back to Europe.” André and Minke will be using a much quicker mode of transport to return home – they’ll be flying back to the Netherlands. Speaking from Uzbekistan, André added that they’ve seen some incredible sights along the way and met some amazing people. “We recently spent ten days in Turkmenistan where we traveled across one of the most barren deserts in the world,” he said. “The people were very friendly, with a beautiful mix of Mongol and European features.”  Other recent highlights have included the Silk Road towns of Samarkand, Bughara and Khiva, while they’ve been delighted to discover so many remains of the famous old road in all of the countries they’ve visited so far. Accompanying them all the way has been their faithful Toyota Landcruiser, which has been soldiering on and is valiantly covering the kilometers, although it hasn’t all been plain sailing.  “We encountered some extreme bureaucracy in Turkmenistan, where it took us four hours to get through the border,” continued André. “We were also pulled over by the Turkmen police for speeding – but got away with it! In fact, we’ve had endless, but friendly, police checks, when we’ve had to explain where we are going and once ended up talking about Dutch soccer players, of all things.” Now proud owners of a Persian rug which they bought in Iran, they admit that they are missing their friends, but are having the time of their lives: “So far the trip has been wonderful and very rewarding,” said André. “We have met some wonderful people and are having a great time.”
